2026 Alpine Days Grand Marshals

Craig & Sharlene Skidmore

We are proud to honor Craig & Sharlene Skidmore as this year’s Alpine Days Grand Marshals.

Sharlene and Craig are an East-meets-West story. Craig is from San Diego, California, and Sharlene is from Long Island, New York. They met at BYU where Sharlene was a helpful librarian and Craig was working on his thesis. Their first date was to the Hinckley Scholar Reunion at the Hinckley Ranch. They spent almost 20 years in Chicago, Houston, and Princeton, NJ, and Massachusetts before settling in Alpine in 1995.

Craig traveled extensively as a consultant for Bain & Company and other consulting firms. Sharlene dedicated her time to raising their four children, Ammon (Alejandra), Alicia (Brian Melvin), Tawnya (Kirk Nethercott) and Abram (Kelly). Both Sharlene and Craig volunteered extensively as scouting leaders, seminary teachers, and Sharlene with the League of Women Voters.

After returning to Utah, Craig continued his professional career as an executive in high-tech companies while also remaining deeply engaged in public service. He co-founded the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors, served 13 years on its board, and served four years on the Utah State Securities Board, along with 12 years in various political party roles. Craig was the Alpine Trail Master/Trail Committee Chair for five years, helping design, build, and maintain (alongside local scouts) roughly 20% of Alpine’s trail system.

Once their children were grown, Sharlene served for over 23 years as the Librarian for Kids on the Move, an early intervention center for kids with disabilities or autism. She was also the Alpine member of the multi-city library committee in the late 1990’s and continues to volunteer at the Alpine community library.

Both Sharlene and Craig have devoted decades to Scouting and service. Both have been recognized as Silver Beavers with Craig also recognized as an Outstanding Eagle Scout. Sharlene (with 43 years as a scouter) is currently the Scoutmaster of Troop 10G. Craig (with 39 years in Scouting) currently sponsors two Scout BSA troops in Alpine, one for boys (10B) and one for girls (10G). He is the troop Committee Chairman and an Assistant Scoutmaster for both troops. Craig has chaired over 400 Eagle Board of Reviews for Alpine scouts and was the course director for the first Stake BSA Wood Badge Course in Alpine. Craig also served as a Board Member of the Utah National Parks Council for 7 years.

Together they have helped Scouts lead the Alpine Days Parade annually since 2020 and supported Wreaths Across America, sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution. They are both Leave No Trace Master Educators. Sharlene is also currently an Outdoor Ethics Advocate for the Crossroads of the West Council.

Clearly, Craig and Sharlene love living in Alpine – the people – the trails – the mountains – everything. Thank you, Craig and Sharlene, for everything you have done and continue to do to make Alpine a better place!
